Stewardship Prayer for St. Madeleine Catholic Parish
Almighty God, my parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, If I am. It will be holy if I am.Its pews will be filled If I help fill them. It will do Good works if I work. It will be prayerful if I pray,It will make generous gifts to many causes. If I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its worship if I invite and bring them. It will be a Parish family of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy. If I - who make it what it is - am filled with these same qualities, Therefore, with the help of God, I will dedicate myself to the task of being all the things I want my parish to be. Bless my journey, Lord God, That I might build the church, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord Amen

Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:2020 And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

A Note From Fr. Sebastian:

We’ve had quite a whirlwind of celebrations: Pentecost, the Feast of the Blessed Trinity, followed by Corpus Christi, and then the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Finally, last week, the liturgical color of green returned, and we, as a Church, were given our marching orders. Jesus appointed an additional 72, sending them to the places that our Lord himself intended to visit. There is no escaping the fact that we are a missionary Church. We are reminded of our missionary mandate at the end of every Mass, where we hear the dismissal, “Go, announce the Gospel of the Lord!” Or “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life!” Our ultimate purpose as Catholic Christians is to travel to the mission territory of our homes, places of work, schools, and stores, wherever we may go, and be witnesses and martyrs by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In today’s Gospel, we receive a sobering reminder that this is not always an easy thing to do. When a scholar of the law asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life, Jesus tells him that he must love the Lord with all his heart, being, strength, and mind. Jesus then adds what may be the most difficult of all, namely, to “love your neighbor as yourself.” When the scholar of the law, a Jew, asks Jesus, “And who is centuries of animosity and even hate between the Samaritans and the Jews. Yet, while a Jewish priest and Levite avoided offering assistance to the injured man, a Samaritan came to his aid. Even the scholar of the law had to admit that the Samaritan, who showed mercy to the victim, acted in accord with what God expects of us. Jesus tells the scholar, “Go and do likewise.” Indeed, we have been given our marching orders as we enter ordinary time, and our mandate is to go and be missionaries of mercy. my neighbor?” Jesus responds with the parable of the Good Samaritan. This parable is well-known by most, so there is no need to repeat it here. What some may not be aware of, however, is that there were In today’s parable of the Good Samaritan, as well as in other places, Jesus expects us to be merciful to others. Every time we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we ask the Lord to forgive us as we forgive others. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you” (Matt 7:2). Yes, we are called to be missionaries, missionaries of mercy. The late Holy Father Pope Francis, early on in his pontificate, entitled one of his books, “The Name of Our God is Mercy.”As many of you are enjoying the summer vacation time to travel and visit family and friends, I pray for your safety and well-being, and I look forward to your safe return. Let us pray especially for the tragedy of the flash floods in Texas that claimed the lives of so many, including children. Let us pray that the Lord will keep us all safe from such natural disasters.God bless you all,Fr. Sebastian

Defend Our Faith

In order to defend our Faith, we need to know our Faith. Many of us attended eight years of Catholic Grade School. Once we left and went on to public education, our formal religious education came to an end. We are, in effect, going through life with the eighth grade understanding of our Bible, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium! The Church wants us to know our Faith as Adults. Adult religion classes that guide us to a deeper understanding of Catholicism, many of us have witnessed, is a most rewarding and enjoyable time that is well spent.
