A Note From Fr. Sebastian:
While the of Resurrection of our Lord that we celebrate every Sunday supersedes all other Sunday celebrations, today, September 8, is the traditional date of the Nativity, i.e., the birth, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, nine months to the day after her Immaculate Conception in the womb of her mother Anne on December 8. While the circumstances of Mary's birth, infancy, and early life are not recorded in the pages of Sacred Scripture, ancient documents describing the circumstances of her birth are cited by some of the earliest Christian writers from the first centuries which provide some of the Church's traditional beliefs about Mary.We here at St. Madeleine are especially blessed to be the home of the Santa Fe Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche whose feast we celebrate on October 11. This year Bishop Pohlmeier will be joining us for this solemn event. While Christians are consecrated to Christ though Baptism, for centuries many have also consecrated themselves to the Virgin Mary, the first and most perfect model of what it means to be a disciple of her Son, Jesus Christ. I would like to invite all of you to draw closer to Jesus through Mary. Please visit the Shrine website at https://www.santafeshrine.org/consecration where you can find resources on how to prepare for your Marian consecration or reconsecration. The 33 Days of Preparation begin today, Sunday, September 8th. This preparation can be prayed anywhere, and then together we will gather for the consecration prayer in the Shrine at 6pm on the Vigil of the Feast, Thursday, October 10th. Tradition tells us that Anne and Joachim were a childless couple, but by devoting themselves to prayer and fasting they gave birth to Mary, upon whose conception in Anna’s womb an angel revealed to her that all generations would honor their future child saying, “The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth, and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.” Indeed, our diocesan patron, Saint Augustine, described Mary’s birth as an event of cosmic and historic significance. The blessings the Lord has for each of us through the intercession of the mother of His Son are beyond our comprehension. Expect miracles! As we read from the Prophet Isaiah in our first reading today, Thus says the LORD: Say to those whose hearts are frightened: “Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. … Streams will burst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe. The burning sands will become pools, and the thirsty ground, springs of water.”Please join with me in our Marian consecration as a parish, and mark you calendars for Thursday, October 10th at 6pm in the Shrine so that together we can make the Act of Consecration.I’d like to thank our speaker, Kristen Wayne, regional director of Students for Life for her talk last Wednesday in our Marian Bioethics series and please watch for future talks in this series. On a lighter note. Please join us for fun and fellowship at our parish Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 14 in the Parish Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Also, please remember to Vote “NO!” on Amendment 4 on election day!God bless you all!Fr. Sebastian

Defend Our Faith
In order to defend our Faith, we need to know our Faith. Many of us attended eight years of Catholic Grade School. Once we left and went on to public education, our formal religious education came to an end. We are, in effect, going through life with the eighth grade understanding of our Bible, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium! The Church wants us to know our Faith as Adults. Adult religion classes that guide us to a deeper understanding of Catholicism, many of us have witnessed, is a most rewarding and enjoyable time that is well spent.
